His undergraduate degree is from Western Kentucky University, and his MA is from Ball State University. He served in the US Army Reserves for six years. Dossey left teaching to work in yearbook publishing with the Herff Jones Company. He was a sales rep in Los Gatos, CA, an area manager in Logan, UT, a regional manager in Indianapolis and ended his business career as VP-Sales for the yearbook division.He and his wife, Darcy Hall, have four adult children and two granddaughters. Hall, who has journalism degrees from the University of Oregon and Lewis and Clark College, edited "XC97." The sequel, "Entangled," was released in May 2016.
