Born in Butte, Montana, Bard was the eldest of five children. With their mining engineer father, the family traveled all over the country, moving so frequently that Bard did not complete one uninterrupted year of school until she was 13, when the family moved to the north slope of Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood in Washington in 1918, then to the Laurelhurst neighborhood a year later, and finally settled in the Roosevelt neighborhood in 1922.
After a year at the University of Washington and stints as a stenographer, filing clerk and switchboard operator, Bard finally settled on advertising and wrote radio commercials. She married physician Clyde Jensen in Seattle in 1934 and went on to have three daughters.
Bard was the author of the three volume Best Friends series for girls and also wrote three autobiographical works: Just Be Yourself (1955), Forty Odd (1952) and The Doctor Wears Three Faces (1949). She died in 1970.показать меньше
