She has worked in the healthcare field since 1985. During her adult life she has witnessed the personal struggle of people with obesity, both professionally and within her immediate and extended family.
She has witnessed and researched common obstacles people face during the weight management process. She has observed the results and frustrations of various weight loss programs and expresses a deep empathy to those who struggle with excess weight.
In her personal struggle against obesity, she has managed to keep her own weight at an appropriate range. Since High School, she has been a Junior size 5-7 and a Misses size 4-6. At age 53 she is still a size 4-6. As a result of her struggle and empathy to others, she writes this book with an effort to promote a mindful approach to weight management.
She believes that self-love and self-talk are crucial ingredients to the success of weight management. She advocates eliminating the word loss from the vocabulary, replacing it with the word management when referring to weight. In her own experience, she has learned that the way things are said, both outwardly an inwardly, will determine the follow-through. She shares her experience with the curious reader.
