From there he went on to teach adult financial literacy and business development courses, along the way creating and enhancing model financial literacy curricula for K-12 schools, presenting to educator groups on the subjects of entrepreneurship and financial education, and assisting business startups on the reservation as a Business Development Consultant.
The small businesses Mark operates with his wife include several small real estate rentals, an education consulting business, and a commercial vendor site on Main Street at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and Races in Sturgis, South Dakota, the largest motorcycle rally in the world.
Mark serves on the Board of Directors for Four Bands Community Fund, a highly respected Native Community Development Financial Institution on the Cheyenne River Reservation in central South Dakota. In addition to being a successful grant writer, Mr. Peacock is a Federal Programs Director for Eagle Butte School District 20-1 in Eagle Butte, South Dakota.
During his teaching career, Mr. Peacock was the recipient of many honors, including a regionally unprecedented two Fulbright-Hays Scholarships (China and Nepal), one Scientific Research Society Teacher of the Year award, five National Science Foundation teacher research awards in subjects as diverse as experimental physiology and archaeology, and a Christa McAuliffe (NASA Teacher in Space) Fellowship; more in his field than any teacher in the history of his reservation. Mark has written millions of dollars in grants and program proposals, and has personally developed and independently funded and operated more than twenty camps, tours and student science courses for the benefit of Native American students on the Cheyenne River Reservation.
A former state champion power lifter and track field events coach, Mark lives in Dupree, South Dakota with his wife Patty, his children, Maxwell and Malory, and a dozen stray cats. Contact Mark at thefinanciallyliterateteacher.com or theflt.com.показать меньше
