His serviced as a corporal in the United States Air Force from 1947 to 1949, including at Burtonwood Air Force Base, in England, during the Berlin Airlift.
In addition to going on a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in England for two years, from 1952 to 1954, and as a part-time missionary several times, he has served in many callings, including branch president three times.
Professionally, he has worked in security for many years, and in many positions, sometimes it got quite interesting.
He is now retired and is living in Spanish Fork, Utah, with his wife of fifty-six years. He and his wife, Joyce, have adopted two children, and they have given him seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
