Born in Lisbon, Portugal, he moved to Ireland on the death of his father, Sir Ralph Ouseley, K.C.B., in 1842 and graduated from Dublin University in 1858. He was ordained as a clergyman of the Established Church by the Bishop of Down and Connor, and appointed Curate of Warrenpoint, Co. Down in 1861. In 1870, having voluntarily renounced all eating of flesh, strong drink and tobacco as inconsistent with the humanity and the true religion of Christ, as taught by Him and His apostles, he was received as a priest of the Catholic Apostolic Church.
Rev. Ouseley founded the Order of At-one-ment and United Templars Society, with its motto: “One God, one Religion, various names, various forms.” Its object was to bring about a reconciliation of opposing ideas, things, persons, and systems; at-one-ing the human with the Divine, and man with God; by the Spirit of Christ within the soul.
His views placed a strain on the personal relationship between the reformer and his Church, which led to his subsequent suspension and, later, to being cast out of the Church.
Rev. Ouseley passed away in 1906 at the age of 72.показать меньше
