He is the second of four children born to his mother and father, David W., Sr. and Violet Kilmer. Knowing she was due to deliver, his mother was forced to call the police for transportation to the hospital in Coatesville, PA, since her husband was working at the time. The name of the police officer who transported her to the hospital was named Robert Lee. Bob’s mother was so appreciative of the officer that she named the baby, Robert Lee Kilmer. The irony of all this is that Bob became a Chaplain to a local police department in Aston, PA.
Bob found that he really enjoyed writing while going to school. He enjoyed poetry but never dreamed he would be able to write poetry. He began to see his talent for writing when he was in the Navy. During the early years of his 20 year Navy career, his shipmates would ask him to write letters and poetry to their “girls back home”.
Later he began writing poetry, but never kept any of his poems. Later still, he became a follower of Jesus Christ. The tone of his poetry began to focus on Him. He found that as he went through trials in his life he would write about Christ and express his feelings to Him and God the Father.
Although encouraged by many to publish his works, he would state, “I only write poetry for my own enjoyment, and sometimes for someone who is hurting”. Finally, in his seventies he decided to make his poetry available to whoever might have need of encouragement. After searching for publishers who might be able to help him he submitted his manuscript of poems for a book to be published.
Bob is very grateful to his wife, Jackie, and his eight children (two marriages), Dave, Saundra, Stephen, Traci, June, David, Scot, and their now deceased son, Aaron, who left us much too soon.
It is the prayer of the author that those who read these poems will do one or all of the following:
a. Become a follower of Jesus Christ, if not one already;
b. If hurting from the trials of life, allow God to heal them;
c. If having walked away from Him, to allow Him to draw them back to Him.показать меньше
